Weight Loss Tip: Late Night Eating

Holistic Weight Loss Tip about Late Night Eating
February 13, 2015 / Nutrition

When someone is trying to lose weight occasionally we are asked if it is better just to skip dinner; additionally we often find that people who have put on extra pounds without changing their lifestyles commonly are eating too much too late at night. Missing a meal cues hunger pangs, may disrupt your sleep, and will usually make you wake up ravenous either in the middle of the night or in the morning.

Eating too close to bedtime floods the body with calories that are not used during sleep and spike blood sugar both of which encourage fat deposition. It is best to eat a light dinner about 3 hours before you plan to go to sleep. If you get hungry before bed grab a high protein snack such as an apple with almond butter or a small unsweetened yogurt. These will keep your blood sugar stable making it easier to fall asleep while increasing the quality of sleep.
